CSS Evening Talk: Emerging India
On 4 February 2014, the CSS Think Tank organized an evening talk on “Emerging India – A New Actor on the Global Stage?”. The
speakers, Christian Wagner, head of the Asia research group at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), and
Prem Mahadevan, researcher at the CSS Think Tank team on Global Security, agreed that for a number of reasons, India will probably not gain much importance in international politics. Despite carrying a significant burden in UN peace support operations, Delhi is not sufficiently prepared to take on greater international responsibility, one reason being the very small size of its diplomatic corps.
