CSS Evening Talk: Swiss Health Security in the Global Context

On 3 May 2018 the CSS heldt an Evening Talk on “Swiss Health Security in the Global Context”.  

Cross-border diseases pose a threat to the political and economic stability of many countries. Already in 2007, the World Health Organization (WHO) dubbed a possible new form of the influenza virus “the most feared security threat” and called on states to adopt more stringent measures that could help prevent and respond to pandemics.

At this evening talk, we explored the question of whether the right lessons were learned from previous pandemic outbreaks. We also discussed Switzerland's contribution to Swiss and global health security through the Swiss Health Foreign Policy strategy adopted by the Federal Council in 2012.

Professor Dr Marcel Tanner, Professor and Chair of Epidemiology and Medical Parasitology and former Director of  the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute and

Dr Ursula Jasper, Senior Researcher at the Center for Security Studies gave lectures and answered the questions of the audience.
