Digitalization, interconnectedness and the increasing complexity of IT provide cyber attackers with opportunities to sabotage functional processes of critical infrastructures and thus, if necessary, also exert political pressure. CSS' Myriam Dunn Cavelty and CSS director Andreas Wenger expect more cyberattacks to be carried out on critical infrastructures by 2035. In their article for SCHWEIZ 2035: Lage- und Umfeldanalyse 2022, they write that these are unlikely to be destructive attacks of a wartime nature, but rather espionage activities or small acts of sabotage.
