The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), which is a coalition of governments, companies, civil society groups, investors and international organizations, seeks to strengthen governance in resource-rich countries, primarily by introducing greater transparency and accountability in the extractive sector. As part of its charter, EITI facilitates the verification and full publication of company payments and government revenues from oil, gas and mining activities. By doing so, the Initiative thus sets a global standard that promotes revenue transparency at the local level.
