The National Intelligence Council is the center for long-term strategic analysis within the US Intelligence Community (IC). Its main functions are 1) to provide senior policymakers with coordinated views of the entire IC, including National Intelligence Estimates (NIEs), 2) to prepare IC principals and represent the IC at National Security Council meetings, and 3) to tap non-US government experts in academia and the private sector to broaden the IC's knowledge and perspectives.
