Amnesty International (AI) is an independent global organization campaigning for internationally recognized human rights standards. The organization's mission is to conduct research and generate action to prevent and end grave abuses of human rights and to demand justice for those whose rights have been violated. Particular areas of focus for AI are dedicated to stopping violence against women, defending the rights and dignity of those trapped in poverty, abolishing the death penalty, opposing torture and combating terror with justice, freedom for prisoners of conscience, protecting the rights of refugees and migrants and regulating the global arms trade.
