The University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) is the only institution of higher education in Europe that specializes in the study of Asia, Africa and the Near and Middle East. In fulfilling its charter, SOAS grapples with the pressing, contemporary issues that impact these areas while also acting as the 'guardian' of specialized knowledge (in languages, regions and periods of history) that are not available elsewhere in the UK.
