The National Democratic Institute (NDI) is a nonprofit organization that works to uphold the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and to strengthen democracy worldwide. It fulfills these ambitions by 1) providing assistance to civic and political leaders who advance democratic values, practices and institutions, 2) promoting the development of institutionalized channels of communications among citizens, political institutions and elected officials, and 3) strengthening the ability of governments to improve the quality of life for all their citizens.
