The Court of Justice of the European Communities constitutes the judicial authority of the EU and ensures the uniform application and interpretation of EU law. It consists of the Court of Justice, the General Court, and the Civil Service Tribunal, and works to ensure that "the law is observed" "in the interpretation and application" of the Treaties. Its work involves reviewing the legality of EU acts and institutions; ensure Member State compliance with the obligations under the Treaties; and interpret EU law at the request of national courts and tribunals.
