The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) is responsible for the country's environmental policy, education of the public with regard to environmental issues as well as with climate protection, environment and energy. It also deals with issues such as environmental development in Eastern Germany, air quality control, conservation of groundwater, rivers, lakes and seas.
