This policy brief addresses US interests in Iraq, specifically on what can be done to ensure that vital American interests are protected in the transition from the George W Bush administration to that of Barack Obama. The authors suggest that US policy should be aimed toward restoring US credibility, improving regional stability, and developing contingency plans in case of violence or Iraqi government action. The brief also discusses the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) and issues surrounding the 2009 provincial and national elections.
