This brief presents accelerated membership of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) for Bosnia and Herzegovina as the best method of reversing the downward political and economic trends in the country. It outlines why NATO membership would halt this process before examining the political situation in Bosnia itself. The author questions whether the Serb population would want NATO membership for Bosnia, then suggests that Russia's potential 'spoiler' can be overcome by giving the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Mission to Bosnia the coordinating role in constitutional reform.
