This paper argues that to support Africa’s democratization, aid providers must consider how their efforts affect democratic accountability. The author discusses the role of democracy, development and stability in Africa and the challenge of dismantling political systems that have characterized African politics. He highlights the links between aid policy, draws lessons for democratization and discusses the implications for aid to African countries.
