This paper discusses the challenges facing community-led peacebuilding programs in conflict-affected regions. It provides a framework for community-led reconciliation and recovery (CRR), a holistic approach that puts responsibility into the communities' hands. The authors provide the steps for implementing a CRR program, including processes for building leadership capacity and developing skills to strengthen relationships between conflicting parties. They offer lessons from the CRR program in Aceh, Indonesia, which engaged local communities in peacebuilding activities thereby strengthening their ownership of the peace process.
