Throughout the Cold War, Sino-Soviet relations consistently influenced the global political setting in a direct manner. The Sino-Soviet alliance of the 1950s shifted the focus of the Cold War from Europe to Asia; similarly, the Sino-Soviet split in the late 1950s and early 1960s directly facilitated the normalization of US-Chinese relations. This publication makes use of the declassification of relevant Soviet documents, as well as a succession of publications from Chinese historical archives, to elucidate the Cold War history of Sino-Soviet relations. Each chapter focuses on one particular issue or event relevant to the deterioration of Sino-Soviet relations in the 1950s.
