This study examines the effectiveness of seven peacebuilding and conflict prevention strategies to reduce the risk of election violence. It bases its evaluation on original survey data from local respondents in Kenya and Liberia during the 2017 elections. The publication concludes that police training, community outreach, dialogue involving security actors, and efforts to strengthen election commissions contribute to peaceful elections. However, it finds no systematic evidence for the effectiveness of peace messaging and voter consultation as approaches to preventing election violence.
