Although in the past years the coca cultivation area in Colombia diminished, in 2005 Colombia was the principal world producer of coca leaves and processed cocaine. More than 80 percent of worldwide cocaine and as much as 90 percent of cocaine consumed in the US are produced in Colombia. More than two-thirds of the cocaine available in Europe comes from Colombia.
