This paper looks at Switzerland's tradition as a protecting power and whether this traditional instrument of Swiss foreign policy is about to experience a renaissance. It analyzes protecting power as an instrument and looks at the roots of the Swiss Confederation’s tradition and the motives for accepting representations of interests between states that have broken off relations.
