In August 2010, the Georgian government invited some of South Africa's 40,000 Boer farmers to purchase land in Georgia in exchange for bringing their expertise and knowledge of modern farming. This publication examines the scheme and outlines what has taken place thus far. It examines the Georgian government's aims and methods, how it plans to carry the scheme out and how it will fit into the Ministry of Agriculture’s broader plans for agricultural reform and rural development. It looks at the potential benefits and risks of the scheme, taking into account the views and experiences of Georgian local farmers and South African Boers.
