This paper discusses the implications of the revolt in Tunisia which toppled President Ben Ali. The author argues that the revolt was due to a series of factors specific to Tunisia and that the country's future will largely depend on the decisions of the provisional government. The author regards the risk of a contagion effect in the region to be significant, but not inevitable or identically applicable.
