This article deals with international surveillance of infectious diseases addressed through international, national and non-state networks. The author looks at potential political obstacles to the proliferation of such networks and concludes that we are far from being able to believe that government or non-state managed infectious disease surveillance networks will enhance security from infectious disease outbreaks.
