This paper reviews the underlying causes of the financial crisis that erupted in the US in 2007. The author applies a comparative approach, noting similarities with earlier crises (Mexico in 1994 and South Korea in 1997). This crisis shares certain similarities with earlier cases of financial turmoil, highlighting the need to address complicated challenges of international financial governance.
