This is a transcript of a discussion on the evolving role of Turkey in the Arab world. The speakers discuss the relationship between the civilian government and the military in Turkey, the country’s democratic transformation and the role of political Islam, as well as Turkey’s engagement with the Arab world. The extent to which Turkey can be a model for the Arab countries depends on how well it can reconcile the discrepancy between the regime-change type of activities that are expected of and its actual contribution to the Arab spring.
