Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) region remains mired in an archaic system of indirect governance which continues to benefit militant Islamists. The reform of Local Governance Regulation 2012, argues this recommendations-centered policy brief, could help mitigate this problem and benefit the governments of Pakistan and the United States, along with other local and international stakeholders.
