In the two rounds of voting in the referendum on Egypt's constitution turnout was extremely low with only 32 percent (of the 52 million Egyptians eligible to vote) casting ballots. The brief presents a breakdown of the main trends in Egypt's social networks. Since President Morsi pushed his constitution through, a sense of social chaos – due to perceptions of incompetent governance, lack of personal safety, and impending economic collapse – has been expressed on these networks. According to the authors, this has led Egyptian citizens to arm themselves for self-protection, buy up US dollars, and hunker down against the approaching socio-economic collapse.
