The island of Yap within the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) has been identified by Chinese developers as a potential tourist destination. The FSM is reliant on aid from the US and industrial fishing permits for economic development, and tourism could prove an alternative. In this article Adam Thompson describes the potential dangers of Chinese development plans for Yap and alternative avenues for the island to develop its tourist industry.
