This brief explores the implications of the Senkaku Islands dispute for the United States. The US military has exclusive control over two of the disputed islands. The author argues that the struggle for the islands reveals a wider power struggle for global hegemony between the existing superpower —the United States—and the rising revolutionary power —China.
