This commentary argues that Egypt has failed to implement effective constitutional reforms following the fall of the Mubarak government in 2011. The author says that the way the constitution was approved means it will probably only have a short life. He also suggests that the Muslim Brotherhood are likely to do all they can to hold onto power and that there is a gradual drift towards authoritarian rule in the country. The author concludes that there may be future instability if the Muslim Brotherhood does not accommodate greater political diversity.
