While China’s navy is an excellent power projection tool, it has thus far been designed to operate within Beijing's traditional areas of influence. Whether that changes or not, this publication argues, it doesn't relieve the EU and its individual member states from the responsibility of ensuring that UNCLOS (the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea) and 'Good Governance at Sea' are enforced in the region.
