This report assesses the emerging political party system in Nigeria at the midpoint between the country's 2011 and 2015 elections. It also searches for lessons from the country‘s historic pattern of election-related conflict. The author argues that the next phase of party coalition building may determine future stability in the country. He suggests this means that political actors will need to address the growing disjunction between themselves and the people they represent.
