In 2014 the Obama administration will publish its second National Security Strategy (NSS). According to the author of this analysis, it will not promote a new and coherent doctrine. Instead, it will be a document created in financially austere times. That probably means it will insist that the US should focus on its core interests and respond to three fundamental challenges -- the redefinition of existing alliances, a renewed focus on Asia, and the curtailing of its lethal drones program.
