This "AUSTRAL" issue examines a number of topics in the field of South-South Cooperation. The articles cover topics such as Mercosur's future objectives, strategies and challenges, Brazil's "active and affirmative" diplomacy under President Lula, and current relations between Russia and the main Latin American countries. In addition, the authors analyze the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), foreign policy and strategic objectives of South Africa under Jacob Zuma, the rise and fall of US hegemony in the world economy, as well as the role of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states in South-South cooperation.
