This brief argues that a dual track approach should be used to strengthen the role of NGOs in Asia. First, a more deliberate, coordinated effort by international donors is needed to support comprehensive public health interventions. Second, governments need to reduce restrictions that constrain local and international NGOs from engaging in the type of regional cooperation necessary to adequately deal with public health challenges that do not respect borders.
