This paper examines whether the European Union, in its current state, can survive the financial crisis. The authors argue that a new reform agenda is needed to address the structural flaws in the eurozone. They conclude that to survive the crisis, European leaders should embrace pluralism, participation and solidarity rather than the technocratic centralism of rules and sanctions that has guided their interaction so far.
