This paper examines Bulgaria's anxiety over having an 'incomplete' membership to the EU as a result of the euro crisis and the perception that the country is unreliable. The author argues that in order to convince the rest of the EU that its membership is justified, Bulgaria must show: that it is separated from the Greek economy, that it can catch up and grow under current EU arrangements, and that this model is sustainable. He concludes that Bulgaria's anxiety shows that the country is willing and eager to adapt and will help it eventually join the inner core.
