This paper assesses the EU's renewed commitment to non-discrimination and equality with regard to national minorities. After discussing the concept of 'equality' more broadly, the authors look at specific evidence of positive action and renewed forms of non-discrimination mechanisms within the EU. However, they contend, these measures are still in their infancy and seldom used for the improvement of the overall situation of national minorities.
