This publication discusses the concurrent escalation of conflicts in parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Central African Republic (CAR) and the Republic of South Sudan (RoSS). According to the author, these conflicts are all part of the same geo-strategic and geo-economic mega-trend: the manifestation of the quest for power by sub-state and sub-region groupings in anticipation of forthcoming development and enrichment throughout the region. He suggests that these conflicts are an African reaction to global trends which are directly affecting Africa’s own future. Therefore, to resolve the spreading violence, he thinks it is necessary to comprehend the root causes of the violence and address the challenges in African terms.
