This report talks about gender perspectives in peace operations conducted by the UN and the African Union. The authors first provide an overview of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which acknowledges the roles of women in conflict and promotes their participation in peace building as well as what lies behind gender perspectives. They go on to look at two case studies on how gender perspectives are practiced in peace operations. The operations covered are the UN Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the African Union Mission in Somalia.
