This article argues that the increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) in Spain in 2013 signals the beginning of the country’s economic recovery. The author first reviews the importance, history and distribution of FDI in the Spanish economy. He then looks at the evidence of improved international investor confidence in the Spanish economy. He concludes by commenting on the prospects of future investment and highlighting that the challenge ahead is to maintain momentum and competitiveness.
