This paper outlines a research agenda for ASPI’s Strategic Policing and Law Enforcement Program. This program will seek to provide policy advice about how Australia’s law enforcement agencies should be used to advance national security. The paper starts by defining strategic law enforcement, implications, key players, and its role in promoting national security. It then outlines areas the program will focus on. These are: 1) the influence of crime on Australia’s security; 2) the contribution of law enforcement agencies to Australia’s international objectives; and 3) how these agencies should be positioned for the future.
