This report discusses the possibilities for using an Islamic perspective to promote women’s rights in Afghanistan. The author argues that despite the challenges involved in this approach, Islamic law concepts have the potential to advance women’s rights in ways that may be more sustainable than Western-influenced rights programming as they better reflect what Afghan communities want.
