This bulletin discusses how the election of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in India in 2014 could affect prospects for increased US-India economic relations. The author first examines US and India trade and investment ties and suggests they are still quite poor. He then outlines Modi's economic policy and suggests it is a step in the right direction as far as the US is concerned and also reviews some of the economic disagreements that remain between the two countries. Finally, he suggests that while the time is ripe for US firms to do business in India, economic ties will only improve if both countries resolve their outstanding problems.
