This analysis overviews the nature, organization and objectives of the so-called Islamic State (IS). More specifically, the author examines 1) IS' origins and leadership, 2) how it raises and spends money, 3) how it differs from al Qaida and the Taliban, and 4) how it facilitates the home-grown radicalization of foreign fighters.
