This paper examines the national unity government (NUG) in Afghanistan and the power sharing arrangement between President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah, established after the 2014 Afghan presidential elections. The author addresses the challenges and opportunities of this agreement and argues that for Afghanistan to be governed effectively, the NUG needs a strong unified commitment to reforms and political and professional integration of the government.
