This paper discusses whether today’s encryption standards represent a threat to cybersecurity, especially if they limit the intelligence gathering and law enforcement activities of government agencies. The author believes that it is a question which highlights the newfound power of the global IT industry, especially in the wake of Edward Snowden’s revelations.
