This paper discusses a theory that emerged from ethnic groups in Myanmar that the source of the resumption of the conflict in the country's Kachin State in early 2015 was a US policy directed against China. The author also discusses 1) how the theory was received in China; 2) the serious flaws of the theory; 3) the reasons why the ethnic groups in Myanmar have a motive to portray the US as undertaking an anti-China policy in their country; and 4) how China and the US should respond to the manipulation of their relations by local actors.
