With over half of the world's population now living in urban areas, this analysis illuminates the growing importance of urban disaster management as a crucial component of modern security policies. While exploring this topic, the text's authors provide a brief description of the unique 'risk landscapes' found in today’s cities, and identify a number of global trends that are emerging in the disaster management field, including new transnational networks.
