This article assesses US (and other Western states') foreign aid policy towards Pakistan. The author believes that external foreign aid hasn’t helped curtail extremist violence in Pakistan. That’s because the aid has focused too much on minimizing the Pakistani state’s weaknesses and ignored the real problem — the large number of people in the country believe that violent extremism is politically legitimate.
