This paper looks at threats to maritime security as well as the building blocks that should make up approaches to providing maritime security, including how to build effective ways to monitor developments at sea. In particular, the author focuses on EU policy as well as the different mechanisms it has in place to monitor the maritime environment and facilitate information sharing between authorities engaged in maritime security.
