This paper discusses the factors behind the growth in trade and diplomatic relations between Asia and Latin America as well as what the countries in the two regions can do to reach the full potential of trade with one another. Among other recommendations, the author suggests that Asian and Latin American governments should 1) increase the number of economies participating in mega-regional free trade agreements, such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership; 2) cut redundant trade regulations; 3) build and modernize trade-related infrastructure; and 4) promote inter-regional cooperation initiatives.
